The “Next Generation” Security Force: Commissionaires Ottawa Turning Heads
The Ottawa-based security force Commissionaires Ottawa has recently won a slew of new contracts due to its reputation for reliability and a growing recognition that the organization offers the ‘next generation’ in full-scale security services.
Most recently, Commissionaires Ottawa competed for and won the coveted Regional Master Standing Offer (RMSO), which provides security to federal government buildings in the City of Ottawa. The RMSO is a multi-million dollar contract that will employ approximately 150 security guards in about 15 public buildings.
In the past few weeks, Commissionaires Ottawa has also added to its list of clients the Museum of Science and Technology, Statistics Canada, the Department of Agriculture Canada, and the Embassy of Japan. In total, over 200 new jobs have been created within the organization, with contracts exceeding $5 million.
“Our success is directly related to our quality service,” says Paul Guindon, Chief Executive Officer of Commissionaires Ottawa. “Our competitive advantage is our people. We have a combination of the most stable workforce in the private security industry and the best qualified, most intensively trained professionals. Over the past year alone our ranks have swelled by over 700 people and these latest contracts will soon push our numbers to over 3,000 security professionals.”
“We are turning heads by providing a better service – you can say the “next generation” of security services,” says Mr. Guindon. “With the heightened sense of security these days, special events, organizations and government agencies require specialized services. Our dependable, professional force has been recognized through and through as providing the very highest level of service.”
Commissionaires are employed in both the private and public sectors - at high-tech, industrial and commercial office facilities; international and local airports; municipal, provincial and federal government buildings; hospitals, embassies and public buildings; military compounds; and, law enforcement agencies.
“Commissionaires Ottawa provides far more than traditional security guard services,” adds Mr. Guindon. “We have a direct link to the RCMP to offer digital fingerprinting, police background checks (CPIC) and other identification services. We also provide Threat Risk Assessments and on-site or mobile alarm response.”
The CEO explained that with the new Ontario Government Bill 159 regulating the security industry, Commissionaires Ottawa is now providing the necessary training for private sector security teams, who will be required to upgrade their skills and undergo mandatory testing and licensing once provincial regulations have been approved.
“As a full-service provider, we’re here to ensure security-sensitive properties and security focused people in Ottawa have the very best protection,” says Mr. Guindon. “No doubt, this was a factor with the RMSO contract, where all competitors had to demonstrate their ability to meet the Federal Government’s rigorous protection standards and very high-level requirements. We’re very proud to have competed for and won that contract.”
Commissionaires Ottawa is a private, not-for-profit company that employs about 3,000 security professionals to protect and serve over 200 client sites in the National Capital Region and across Northern Ontario. Founded on the discipline of military and RCMP cultures, Commissionaires Ottawa has evolved to become a diverse, multi-skilled and experienced company of security professionals. Today, the company is ranked the third largest non-government employer in the National Capital Region.
