"Commissionaires is the perfect place to prepare me for my future career. I love the work and the people are great."

- Beau Banks,
Commissionaire,
Commissionaires Windsor

Commissionaires figured out pretty quickly they’d uncovered a prize with Beau Banks. Just nineteen years old and a Commissionaires’ recruit without military or police background, Beau had scarcely the time to take his uniform out of the packaging before he received the Commissionaires Meritorious Service Medal that recognized not one, but two situations where Beau’s quick thinking, cool- headedness and courageous action shone through.

It takes confidence, maturity and plain old guts to stand between an irate man with a baseball bat and his vulnerable and defenceless target. That is exactly what Beau did one summer afternoon last year. Unarmed and without backup, he stepped into the middle of a violent altercation and talked down the attacker. It wasn’t too much later, at the same marina he patrolled outside of Windsor, that Beau found himself up against another challenge. He’d just come on shift to hear several complaints of theft that day from the boat owners. What to do? Beau lifted the 10pm public curfew to see if he could shake out the perpetrators. His plan worked. Shortly after midnight, Beau called the OPP to report two suspicious-looking men heading towards the area of the larger cruise boats. But before they had a chance to respond, the suspects began to leave the area laden with goods. Beau stepped in to make a citizen’s arrest, ordering the burly men to lay flat on the dock. They complied, initially. However, with the OPP nowhere in sight, the tone soon changed and the suspects became belligerent and uncooperative. Single-handedly, Beau held them at bay long enough for the successful detainment by the local police.

Beau balances his course load as a third year student at University of Windsor with significant hours working as a peace officer for Commissionaires and as a volunteer medic with the university’s Emergency Response Team. He’s what you’d call a fine young man. Posted as a peace officer at the Windsor Courthouse, he loves his new position and appreciates the depth of training and experience he is receiving at Commissionaires. He particularly likes working with a cross-section of veterans because Beau has his heart set on joining the RCMP or the military. Beau figures that between the advice he’s getting from those who have “been there”, the type of work he’s doing and the training he’s accumulating, he’ll have a great leg up. For its part, Commissionaires is delighted to support Beau’s career path.
