Mike Cooper, RCMP (Ret’d)
CEO, Commissionaires North Saskatchewan
In 2009, Mike Cooper was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Commissionaires North Saskatchewan. His experience includes a combined 34 years working in the RCMP and the private business sector, where he led many teams and projects related to business operations, security and investigations.
Mike advanced his skills during a distinguished 22-year career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). First recruited in 1975, he rose through the ranks and took on various supervisory positions. During his career he served in the Major Crimes, Drug Enforcement and Commercial Crime units.
In 1997, Mike switched careers to work at Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC), a provincial Treasury Board Crown Corporation under the portfolio of the Minister of Agriculture. He gained significant business experience while assuming multiple senior level positions over the course of 12 years, culminating in Executive Management of Field Operations and Compliance. Mike had direct responsibility for 300 staff and 21 field offices while overseeing an annual budget of $16 million.
Mike grew up in Nova Scotia where shortly after graduating from high school, he joined the RCMP and has been out west in Saskatchewan ever since. In 1995, he was awarded the RCMP Long Service Medal. The following year, he graduated from the University of Regina with a Diploma in Administration. Mike is also a Certified Fraud Examiner with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners based out of Austin, Texas.
