Commissionaires – Times are Changing

Just as the Air Force has changed over the years in form, but not in spirit, so has the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. Our mandate remains to provide meaningful employment for former serving members of the Canadian Forces and the RCMP. That eighty-year legacy stands fast, however, the types of employment have changed with the times. Access control to the front gate is still one of our functions, but we do a lot more. For example, we are now providing identification services, dispatch functions, accommodation coordinators, evidence custodians and mobile patrols. These examples relate solely to our military clients. Other opportunities range from government and commercial static and mobile guards to direct involvement with law enforcement; arrest processing, police dispatch, and photo radar operators are good examples. Commissionaires are also embracing new technologies such as video monitoring, digital fingerprinting and GPS asset tracking. Throughout everything we do there is a need for leaders whether they be managers or detachment commanders.

So what is in it for you? Whether you are still serving, recently out of the Service, or served with the RCAF, we have a home for you. Full time or part-time, our flexibility is designed to cater to your needs. Our pay rates meet or exceed industry standards, but our benefits are well above the others. Combined with their pension, many of our members find the camaraderie and low stress demands tailor made for their lifestyle. All of this is possible because we are a not-for-profit business that puts our earnings directly back into our Commissionaires. Continuing to serve those who serve fills a void for many of our members who wish to remain part of a professional organization with a reputation for quality service.

Regardless of where you are in Canada, there is a Commissionaire Division in your area. To find out more log onto www.commissionaires.ca or for those of you in the Cold Lake area, contact the Northern Alberta Division at (780) 451-1974 to see what we can do for you.
