April 26, 2010, Vancouver BC - Former member of the Canadian Forces, Carl Huggins, received the Governor General’s Commander-in-Chief's Unit Commendation on Friday, April 23, 2010, at a special awards ceremony held at the Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver. Mr. Huggins received the citation for the work he did as a soldier in July 1992, when he helped to reopen the besieged Sarajevo airport amidst Serbian sniper fire and shelling, in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the city and the surrounding area.

The new Ontario law imposes significant new demands on employers to protect their employees from workplace violence and harassment. Specifically, the new law requires employers to develop new policies and procedures relating to the investigation and reporting of incidents of workplace violence. Before developing such a program, employers are also obliged to complete a risk assessment of violence hazards that may arise in the workplace.

Nearly 60 employees of Commissionaires, a leading provider of security services, travelled to British Columbia from more than 40 different communities across the country, including Summerside, PEI, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Melocheville, Québec, Haneytown, New Brunswick, London, Ontario, and Medicine Hat, Alberta. Under contract to the Department of National Defence, the visiting commissionaires are securing the compounds housing the Olympic security forces. The contract began last summer and commissionaires have been on duty for the last four months and will continue until after the games. They are living on-site.

Survey Reveals need for Second Careers after Life in the Canadian Forces
Canadians wrongly believe that most veterans retire with pensions
November 5, 2009, Ottawa, ON – Canadians overestimate how long the average veteran serves in the Canadian Forces (CF) and how many of them retire with pensions, according to a Nanos Research survey released today by Commissionaires in time for Remembrance Day. In reality, only about 30 percent of veterans have earned pensions when they retire from the Canadian Forces. A strong majority of those surveyed believe that at least half of veterans retire with pensions, and more than 28 percent of Canadians believe that all veterans do.

November 10, 2008, Ottawa, ON - Nearly 90 per cent of Canadians (89 per cent) believe we have an obligation to ensure our veterans find meaningful employment after they’ve finished their service in the Canadian Forces, according to a poll conducted for Commissionaires by Nanos Research. The survey also revealed that 88 per cent of Canadians believe that reservists serving their country should have their civilian jobs protected while they are on duty with the Canadian Forces. Currently, a patchwork of provincial policies means that only some reservists’ civilian jobs are protected.

January 19, 2006, Ottawa, ON - Canada's police forces and public security community will soon benefit from new technology that is currently being developed by the RCMP. As a leader in providing fingerprinting services across Canada, Commissionaires Canada has engaged with the RCMP to implement an enhanced fingerprint identification service.
