Commissionaires: Private Security Organization Begins a New Chapter

Capt (N) Paul A. Guindon (Ret’d) takes seat as Chairman of National Business Management Committee

October 7, 2008 - Commissionaires, Canada’s largest private security services provider, begins a new chapter of its growth with Capt (N) Paul Guindon stepping in to provide leadership and direction on behalf of a nation-wide alliance of 17 Commissionaires CEOs.

Commissionaires has safeguarded private and public sector Canadians and their properties for more than 80 years. The private security organization comprises 17 individually incorporated divisions, over 19,000 employees, and offices in every province from coast to coast.

Commissionaires specializes in four key fields of expertise:  ID services which include digital fingerprinting, police clearance certificates and pardon application services; by-law enforcement and other non-core police duties; a series of corporate training modules for entry-level guards, supervisors or non-security personnel; and, a broad range of traditional and modern security solutions.

The newly appointed Chairman, Commissionaires Ottawa CEO Paul Guindon, says he looks to build on the national organization’s growth and service offerings. “In the last two years, Commissionaires has seen substantial growth in direct response to unprecedented demand for our brand of security services. As I step into this role, I will work with the National Business Management Committee to further develop the organization across Canada and I also look forward to announcing new business lines.”

Mr. Guindon adds, “Commissionaires is leading the way in our ability to respond to increased security threats, new standards and laws, continuous technological advances, and greater expectations for training and services.”

Commissionaires recruits security-focused individuals of all ages and from all walks of life – with a primary focus on hiring former military and RCMP.  Mr. Guindon says, “Just like modern-day veterans, commissionaires have been breaking stereotypes in recent years – particularly when it comes to age, gender, cultural background and employment history.  We have embraced this trend because it allows us to match the growing expertise of modern-day veterans and other highly trained private security professionals with the growing needs of our private and public sector clients.”

Col William Bawden (Ret’d), Commissionaires National Board Chairman, welcomes the selection of Mr. Guindon. “The continuing role of our National Business Management Committee is to find new and better ways of doing business. Paul’s experience, energy and leadership capability make him an ideal choice as its Chairman.”

Bill Bawden adds, “It’s an exciting time to be part of this industry. Commissionaires looks forward to the challenge of providing Canadians with a comprehensive range of security services to effectively counter the increased risks of today and tomorrow.”

Commissionaires is the largest, best-trained and most experienced private security services provider in the country.  It currently provides services and support to federal and provincial government facilities and agencies, international airports, police forces, hospitals, educational institutions, ports, and commercial enterprises. It is also being called on to help safeguard national monuments, large development projects, special events, and private property.  The organization is CAN/CGSB-133.1-2008 and ISO 9001:2000 certified and maintains the highest employee retention rate in the private security industry.
