Marketing and Communications Specialist Velangeline Ferrigno
July 2010, Winnipeg, MB - Master Corporal (MCpl) Rob Chmara returned from serving in Afghanistan and presented art work called “Ring of Steel” by artist Silvia Pecota to Commissionaires Manitoba. MCpl Chmara made a presentation at Commissionaires Manitoba division office today in recognition of their work in the creation and execution of Project Reindeer- Gifts for our Troops.
“Project Reindeer was a way to show our troops that we support them now and when they return home,” said CEO, Tom Reimer. Project Reindeer was a collaborative initiative between Commissionaires Manitoba and the local community.
Donations were collected in October and November of last year and packages were sent to the troops serving overseas during the holiday season. “We collected items that they may have missed from home, entertainment items and toiletries. Snack food, socks, batteries, travel sized toiletries and books were all donated by Commissionaires and the public. We even had children from Darwin School write letters to the troops and included them in the packages,” said Marketing and Communications Specialist, Velangeline Ferrigno.
“The packages were well received; we posted the letters up in our bunkers, used the toiletries, left some items for the next regiment coming in and gave some of the food items to local schools. In recognition of these packages B Squadron, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) wanted to let Commissionaires Manitoba know that we appreciated their efforts,” said MCpl Rob Chmara.
