Commissionaires Expand ID Services in Sydney, Nova Scotia

July 16, 2009, Sydney, NS - A new digital fingerprinting and the Electronic Canadian Police Information Centre (ECPIC) system are now available for faster processing of  clearances for a number of requirements is now available through the Sydney office of Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS).

The expanded services were officially opened  today by Cape Breton Regional Municipality Deputy Mayor Clarence Prince and CNS officials at the Commissionaires District Office at 325 George Street.

Peter Jessome, Cape Breton District Manager for CNS explained these enhanced services will allow clients to process a more efficient time based application by utilizing these new services and in most instances will have a response within 24 hours based on the type of application.

“We have been preparing for this day for the last six months,” continued Jessome. “New computer Cross Match technology, Guardian scanners, Unicom hardware, specifically designed office space, including specialized training has made it possible to introduce these new services.”

Digital fingerprinting services are available for immigration and employment purposes, as well as adoptions, travel visas, pardons and security licensing. Commissionaires are accredited by the RCMP to offer state-of-the-art digital fingerprinting, which allows fingerprint results to be processed in a matter of days, other methods can take much longer.

The enhanced services will assist those requiring a security clearance for employment, visa applications, foreign travel/work permits or related purposes. To complete the process, individuals can visit the Sydney location at their convenience for identification verification and payment. The application is then electronically transmitted via a secure Internet connection and is checked against the Canadian Criminal Record Database maintained by the Canadian Police Information Centre.

In addition to ID services, the Sydney office of CNS also provides guarding services; municipal bylaw enforcement, including parking; police support services, including traffic control; private facility services and security guard training. The office is responsible for more than 240 full and part-time members throughout Cape Breton and in  Guysborough County. CNS employs approximately 1,700 commissionaires at more than 200 work sites throughout Nova Scotia.
