RCMP’s Commanding Officer honoured by Commissionaires Ottawa

More than 90 employees recognized for long or distinguished service

Ottawa, 15 September 2011—During Commissionaires Ottawa’s Annual Awards Presentation Ceremony held in Ottawa, 87 men and women, many of whom are military and RCMP veterans, were honoured for reaching 12, 17, 20, 22, 25, 30 or 35-year milestones in their careers with the private security company.  Captain (N) Paul A. Guindon (Ret’d) CEO of Commissionaires Ottawa officiated this year’s ceremony, which was attended by company officials, clients, award recipients and their families.

The Guest of Honour was Chief Superintendent Sharon Woodburn, Commanding Officer, RCMP National Headquarters. During the ceremony, Woodburn was formally introduced and welcomed as an Honourary Governor of Commissionaires Ottawa.

The CEO said, “Our decision to distinguish Chief Superintendent Sharon Woodburn as an Honourary Governor acknowledges Commissionaires Ottawa’s dedication and enduring ties to the RCMP.  Our company’s social mandate includes an overarching focus on providing former members of the Canadian Forces and RCMP with meaningful employment opportunities, serving those who have served our nation.”

Together, the CEO and Guest of Honour presented medals to 87 commissionaires for dedicating a decade or longer of loyal service.  In addition, one commissionaire was honoured as Supervisor of the Year, while four others were recognized with CEO Commendations for special projects or achievements, (i.e. honours presented as part of the company’s internal recognition program). Another commissionaire was distinguished for winning the Association of Professional Security Agencies (APSA) Guard of the Year Award, having been selected from amongst 18 member companies representing more than 30,000 private security guards across Ontario.

“I am pleased to present these awards to those who exemplify what we look for in a commissionaire – dedication and service to community, and a commitment to preserving and safeguarding the freedoms and peaceful way of life all Canadians enjoy,” said Guindon.

The Annual Awards Presentation Ceremony has been a long-standing tradition of Commissionaires Ottawa.  During the past five years alone, more than 500 commissionaires have qualified for long service medals or awards of distinction.

“To all award recipients, I say congratulations. Your trust, loyalty, dedication and honesty strengthen our company’s ability to maintain, by far, the highest employee retention rate in the industry,” said Guindon. “We offer our clients protection—for themselves and their hard-earned assets—as a direct result of the industry-leading training, discipline and experience of our private security professionals.”

Commissionaires Ottawa has been recognized as a Market Leader and the largest private company in Ottawa.  Today, it employs 3,700 commissionaires at 500 client sites in the National Capital Region, the Ottawa Valley, throughout Northern Ontario and in Northwestern Quebec.  The company offers a comprehensive range of identification, enforcement, training and security solutions.
