Master Warrant Officer Jim Britton (Ret’d), CD
Employee Relations / Labour Relations Manager, Commissionaires Ottawa
Jim Britton is a highly accomplished individual with 30 years of experience—as a Canadian Forces (CF) veteran with a record of military excellence, a human resources specialist, and a team leader whose contributions to Commissionaires’ Return to Work (RTW) program have already yielded successful results.
Beginning in 1981 and over the course of 26 years of loyal service in the CF, Jim travelled extensively in Canada and overseas and was assigned various posts primarily related to training and operations. He is a recipient of the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD), Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM), United Nations Cyprus medal, United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) medal, and NATO Implementation Force (IFOR) Bosnia medal.
During the last few years of his military career, between 2004-2007, he served as a Career Manager at the Department of National Defence (DND). This is where his interest in Human Resources first took hold, and so he registered for a program at Algonquin College to round out his experience and graduated with a Human Resources Management Certificate in 2007.
That same year, Jim retired from the CF with the rank of Master Warrant Officer and transitioned to a civilian career in the private sector with Commissionaires Ottawa. He was hired as the company’s Employee Relations Manager—a role that includes serving as a liaison between management and employees, enforcing employment standards, addressing personnel issues, and managing a diverse range of employee-focused programs and processes. His role has since expanded to include Labour Relations and management of the RTW program.
To date, Jim has personally welcomed eight individuals to Commissionaires Ottawa who have qualified for the RTW program and closely monitored their progress at every step of the way. He is passionate about promoting the value of the program while providing these physically and psychologically injured soldiers and veterans, and their families, with the support they need during all phases of recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration.
