Run For Military Families (5-6 May 2011)
In 2011, Lead Organizer and Sponsor Commissionaires Ottawa, in partnership with Canadian Forces Base Petawawa and Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa), presented a $55,000 cheque at the finish line of the fourth annual RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES. Funds raised by Commissionaires Ottawa are supporting Child Care Programs managed by the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre (PMFRC) and the Military Family Resource Centre-National Capital Region (MFRC-NCR).
The concept: 200 km. 2 days. About 20 commissionaires and
20 military personnel ran relay-style (sometimes as a group, and sometimes branching off into smaller groups) through the communities of Ottawa, Arnprior, Renfrew, McNab-Braeside, Whitewater Region, Pembroke and Petawawa. Crowds of all ages gathered to cheer on and donate to our runners at these Public Assembly Points.
The RUN FOR MILITARY FAMILIES has become an established, high-profile annual event supported by an ever-increasing number of businesses, schools, dignitaries, politicians, media, civilians, veterans and military families in the National Capital Region and throughout the Ottawa Valley. Since 2008, in addition to the thousands of people who have come out to cheer on our runners, Commissionaires Ottawa has raised more than $170,000 in support of military families.
