Major (Retired) Ian D. Sweet, CD

Ian joined the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Division of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires in June 2018 and assumed the duties of the Chief Executive Officer on 15 August 2018.

Ian served 24 years with the Canadian Forces Health Service, including postings as the Commanding Officer of 18 Field Ambulance (Thunder Bay), Senior Administrator & Operations Officer of Canadian Forces Health Services Operational Training Unit, Halifax; the Mission Medical Administrator for the United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti and Operations & Training Officer, 2 Field Ambulance, Petawawa.

After his retirement from the military, Ian worked with the Waterloo Regional Police Association as their Director of Member Services and in 2017 he accepted a position as the Project Manager for a busy Role 1 Medical Clinic in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Ian is a graduate of Dalhousie University Law School and Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is also a graduate of the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in Kingston.

He is a recipient of the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar (CD1), the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, the United Nations Medal for service in Haiti Medal and is an Officer of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem.

His memberships include the Law Society of Ontario, the Royal Canadian Legion and the United States Marine Corps League.

He enjoys travelling on international humanitarian medical missions and is the very proud Father to his daughter Haley.
