Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) appointed their first ever female Board Chair at their Changing of the Chair Ceremony June 1, 2018.  Cdr (Ret’d) Richard Oland’s two-year term as Board chair came to a close, and the Board of CNS selected Cdr (Ret’d) Marjorie Hickey, CD, LLB, QC as his successor.

Cdr Hickey, a former Commanding Officer of HMCS Scotian and naval reservist for 35 years, was elected to the CNS Board in 1996 and will serve as Board Chair for a two-year term. She is a partner at McInnes Cooper, Halifax, Cdr Hickey practises litigation and administrative law, with a specialty in the field of regulation of the professions. She is also a Past President of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. Impressively, just this past February, Cdr Hickey received the Benchmark Canada 2018 Award for top lawyer for the practice area of Medical Defense/Health. CNS is thrilled to have her lead their volunteer Board.

Thank you, Cdr Oland, for your leadership over the past two years and your liaison with the CNS CEO to ensure completion of their new HQ and Strategic Plan, among many other accomplishments.
